Pace Water System, Inc. is a member owned, not-for-profit corporation that was formed and began operations in 1964. The system initially served 400 customers with each customer holding membership in the corporation upon signing a service agreement when connecting to the system or assuming an existing service connection. The Board of Directors governs policies and procedures for operation of the utility. This Board consists of six members who are elected from three districts within the water system. Each district elects two Board members who serve for 2-year terms. The Board members from each district are elected on alternating terms. Thus, each district has one new Board member and one remaining Board member each year.
The Board conducts the business of the corporation bylaws, which may be changed annually at a meeting by the members. The bylaws were last modified in 1993. Since the initial water system was constructed, the system has grown to include about 13,000 customer connections. The system currently has ten water wells along with six elevated storage tanks.
Old Office
Did you know that Pace Water System was not always located on 4401 Woodbine Road?
Before resting at the Woodbine location, Pace Water was on Chumuckla Highway. The board room was 1/3 the size of the office at Woodbine, there was just one office manager, two clerks, two servicemen and 9 Board Members. Around 1979, Pace Water System consisted of about 3,000 customers. The biggest difference between locations was the size.
Current Office
Stemming from the lack of space at the Chumuckla Highway office, Pace Water built and moved over to their current location on Woodbine Road in November 1993. Pace has grown continually since that date. In 1999 two wells and three water tanks were added to the system. At the end of 2007, Pace Water System had 12,910 connections serving over 45,000 residents in water and 5,298 sewer connections serving over 18,500 residents with sewer service.
Also in 2007, Pace Water System started a three million gallon expansion of the sewer plant to keep up with the projected growth of their updated 20 year Master Plan. In addition to the sewer plant, a 4,000 square foot new operations center and hurricane shelter is a part of the $15,000,000 expansion. The project, completed in September, 2008 increased our capacity to treat sewer from 2 million gallons per day (MGD) to 5 MGD.
Pace Water System has been blessed for the past 44 years. Many employees have strived to provide the best quality drinking water and service to each of its customers.
